After upgrading to the Aqara Doorbell Camera G400, I can confidently say this is a feature-packed step up from a traditional doorbell—especially if you’re invested in a smart home ecosystem like Apple HomeKit.

The initial setup wasn’t completely plug-and-play. After scanning the QR code, the device wouldn’t link in the Aqara app at first. The fix turned out to be power-related—switching to a transformer rated at at least 1 amp solved the issue immediately, and the doorbell connected without further problems. So if you run into setup trouble, check your transformer before anything else.

Once installed, the G400 really shines. The video quality is crisp, and notifications are fast and reliable. One of the standout features is how seamlessly it integrates with HomeKit. When someone rings the doorbell, the video feed pops up right on my compatible thermostat display, and it also announces through whichever HomePods I choose. That level of customization makes it feel like a truly connected home experience.

The Aqara app adds another layer of control, offering access to additional features and settings beyond what HomeKit alone provides. Between motion detection, alerts, and automation options, there’s a lot here to explore.

Overall, while the setup required a bit of troubleshooting, the payoff is absolutely worth it. The Aqara G400 delivers strong performance, excellent smart home integration, and flexibility that makes it a solid upgrade for anyone looking to modernize their front door.

This is hands down the best Doorbell camera I have owned. It’s hardwire powered, either PoE or doorbell transformer. Was a snap to install, I used the Aqara app then added it to HomeKit. Video quality is best in the Aqara app but very good in HomeKit as well. My camera is partially exposed to rain but the camera shrugs it off.

There is almost no lag in the Aqara app and none at all in HomeKit. Motion detection is great and is customizable. It accurately detects people and animals and packages.

The Aqara Doorbell Camera G400 is possibly the best Apple Homekit Doorbell for 2026. It supports POE connection to my router, giving me a direct connect the video feed. No more spotty WiFi! The 2K image that is down-scaled to 1080p for Apple Secure Video is crystal clear and has good lighting contrast. Also the included chime is not needed for the device to work. You can setup your Apple Home Pod/Mini as your door bell. My only complaint is that you are not able to adjust the doorbell indicator light, you can only leave it on all day or turn it completely off. Maybe Aqara can do some updates to give us the option to only have the light on at night.

The G400 has been working quite well in Aqara's Home app, but we purchased it to use with Apple Home (HKSV) and it has had a rocky start (although it seems like Apple may be to blame). During the initial week there was a 24hour HKSV outage that unfortunately occurred the first day I installed the G400. Once that was resolved, I still had several issues with the G400 in Apple Home. Live Video resolution in Apple Home was noticeably worse than in the Aqara Home app and only lasted a few seconds before it disconnected. Notifications and recordings rarely worked which was definitely a problem.

Aqara Support's suggestion was to update to the latest 26.4 OS on all Apple products and luckily that was released the following day. This fixed all the live view problems with Apple Home, but after an hour I still had notification and recording issues. For whatever reason, the following day Apple Home motion notifications and recordings started working. I tested repeatedly during the day and a few hours at night, and so far it has not missed a single motion event. Unfortunately, there still seem to be a few users on Reddit that are having this same problem.

It's hard to fault Aqara for this as they point out that once the G400 is connected to an Apple TV/HomePod, the hub will pull video from the doorbell and handle all event detection. (I did contact Apple support as well, but have not heard back on the issue after generating videos, logs, and diagnostics for them.) It would be nice if there was a way for users to get additional information in the Apple Home app and/or Aqara Home app as to what might be happening. Having to contact two different companies to determine who is at fault gets annoying fast.

Initial issues aside, I do like the G400. The image quality is quite good (though only 1200p if you use Apple Home). I like that I can install an SD card and have it save events (or save continuously 24/7) to the SD card. It's a bit annoying that vehicle and package detection in Aqara Home require a subscription to their service (or iCloud+ / HKSV) since both should be possible to detect on-device. My only major gripe right now is that IR/night-vision mode is quite dark without adjusting the brightness at which point anyone a few feet or closer to the camera is very overblown. Hopefully Aqara can adjust their auto-dimming algorithm some to improve this.

This doorbell replaced an old Logitech Circle View I installed a while back. The Logitech was cutting out every now and again. Also, the 4 x 3 view cut people's heads off and I couldn't see any parcels. I'm heavily into the Apple world and the Logitech didn't support iCloud secure video. So, I wanted to replace the Logitech.

After reviewing options, the G400 seemed the most straight forward to install. It is powered from the original doorbell unit - basically the same wiring as the Logitech. Switching the G400 in place was very easy. Setup in the Aqara app was straight forward and a tap will add the doorbell to HomeKit.

The G400 recognizes household members and friends more accurately. The video is a lot clearer.

The G400 will not right the original doorbell. Aqara include a USB C powered remote doorbell. The way HomeKit works rings the door bell on HomePods, so we don't miss callers. HomeKit notifies us of people being at the front door.. We can talk to the visitor too. Basically, it all works nicely together.

For $99 I think the G400 is fantastic value for money.

I had high hopes for this camera and but unfortunately it's a let down. First, the video quality is good for the first few feet but anything beyond that is blurry and just not good. Second, most of the time it doesn't pick up motion for anything further than 15 feet or so. My driveway is in the camera's view but driving in and out of the garage didn't trigger anything.

Another annoyance is that I get a ton of false motion alerts.

Last, it's still a bit chunky compared to my Nest Doorbell and a white color would be good as well, but I would've lived with it if there weren't so many issues.

I'll be returning. I switched from a Night Owl 1080p that was 140 degree field of view. The Night Owl is significantly wider field of view than the G400 which is supposed to be 165 degrees. Back to the Night Owl but I really want 2K.

Follow-up: I've had the camera less than 24 hours. I emailed Aqara support and they already responded. Impeccable customer support as far as I'm concerned. That said, the 165 degrees is diagonal instead of horizontal like every other company measures a camera field of view. That's why my Night Owl 140 degrees is significantly wider than the Aqara G400 165 degree. My hub also dropped the camera connection for a significant portion of the night so I never got to see the night vision. I almost need another wedge to turn the camera out more to get a better view. The field of view may be too big an obstacle for me to overcome also. Picture is sooo much better than my Night Owl though. There's no denying that.

This is another high quality product from Aqara. Easy no-drama installation, great picture and user-friendly UI. Integrates seamlessly with Apple Home.

Ich habe die Klingel an die vorhandenen Drähte unseres alten Klingeltrafos angeschlossen.

Der hat zwar nur 8V, aber die Klingel funktioniert einwandfrei. Eingebunden nicht mit der originalen Aqara-App, sondern nur via Apple Homekit eingefügt. Null Probleme, kinderleicht. Es gibt ein einigermaßen gutes Bild, die Reaktionszeit bis zum Klingeln auf dem Handy und auf den Homepods/dem mitgelieferten Chime sind unmittelbar. Bei uns keine Verzögerung! Einziger Kritikpunkt und völlig unfähig designt ist der Winkelrahmen für die Befestigung der Klingel an der Hauswand. Dieser soll eigentlich dafür sorgen, das die Weitwinkelkamera der Klingel nicht einen Großteil der Hauswand, sondern des Geschehens davor aufnimmt. Da die Führung der Schrauben allerdings falsch konzipiert sind, steht die Kamera nicht im leichten Winkel von der Hauswand ab, sondern gerade. Folglich sehe mit Winkelrahmen immer noch nur etwas 50% vor der Haustür und 50% Hauswand. Aber das Problem lässt sich bei der Montage leicht anderweitig ausgleichen. Trotzdem: Ich würde das Ding sofort wieder kaufen und kann es guten Gewissens empfehlen!

Muy buen producto. La integración con HomeKit es excelente y funciona de forma muy fluida. La respuesta es prácticamente inmediata, tanto al recibir notificaciones como al acceder al vídeo en directo desde la app Casa.

Una de las funciones que más me ha gustado es la llamada al móvil cuando alguien toca el timbre, ya que puedes ver el vídeo en tiempo real y responder al instante, como si fuera una videollamada.

El uso de PoE es un gran punto a favor, ya que simplifica la instalación y hace el sistema mucho más estable que depender solo de WiFi. La calidad de imagen es muy buena y el formato 3:4 es ideal porque permite ver a la persona completa.

En general, muy recomendable si buscas un timbre inteligente rápido, fiable y perfectamente integrado con HomeKit.
