My good experiences with other SwitchBot devices over the years encouraged me to try the SwitchBot Lock Ultra Touch Combo. As of 2025 this lock has been updated with new features and design. The price is reasonable and availability is good. The Combo comes with everything you need: the lock, a fingerprint reader keypad, and Hub to connect to WiFi. Separately, I also ordered a SwitchBot Hub 3 for extra functionality.

The install was quick and easy. The lock utilizes the existing deadbolt, and will accommodate many different styles of locks; there are adapters and instructions on how to adapt this to your style lock. The entire lock is on the inside of the door, so sun, rain, and security/vandalism shouldn’t be an issue. The only parts on the outside are your existing lock and the remote keypad. The old lock I removed has a screen which had gotten destroyed in the sun, and the whole lock had not weathered well either, so the SwitchBot lock being on the inside of the door is a welcome change.

I am super happy with this setup and plan to convert the rest of my entry doors to match. The ease of use and features of this lock and keypad are excellent. For example, I have a multi room garage where the lights are all plugged into outlets via extension cords that aren’t wall switch controlled. I have gotten around this in the past by using the SwitchBot app, which is excellent, to turn the lights on/off from the app. Now, I have several other better solutions. Utilizing Scenes and Automations in the app to control the SwitchBot Switch (a plug in device that has a physical switch, an app controlled switch, and even monitors energy usage) I can have the garage lights turn on automatically when I activate the keypad or open the door. I have them programmed to turn off late at night if I forget. In addition, the Hub 3 mounts to the wall, or anywhere I like, and I programmed several soft buttons on the unit to operate all of the lights in tandem, so now I have a physical “switch” at the entry door. The app has many methods of customization and integration with home control systems from Apple, Google, Amazon, Matter, etc. The layout of the SwitchBot app is easy to work with and it is stable… this is important because so many good devices come with poorly designed and glitchy apps.

The lock movement is strong and adjustable. As long as your deadbolt is adjusted properly to meet the doorframe, and even if it is a little off, this lock will move it successfully. Calibration distance, force/speed, and beeps are customizable. There is a manual knob on the inside to lock/unlock, and a button to lock/unlock that can also bypass auto lock if pressed twice. The lock recognizes whether the door is open or closed with a small magnet that mounts to the door frame. The speed of fingerprint recognition is instant and accurate; so far I have had no failed print reads. The sensor is large and will accommodate big fingers, thumbs, or slightly askew positioning when unlocking. After print recognition, there is only a slight delay before the lock opens, and when it opens, it does so very quickly. On another lock system I have the print reader is much more finicky, waiting to see if it worked or not, and then repositioning if necessary; even when it recognizes your print it takes extra time to do so. I prefer this SwitchBot lock and fingerprint setup very much.

Unlocking is possible with an included NFC card, your phone, the app, other NFC devices, fingerprint, passcode, the original key… I prefer the fingerprint since I always have my fingers with me and it is so quick, but the other options are nice to have, especially for guests. The passcodes are programmable remotely offsite as long as there is a WiFi connection. I can see the status and battery levels all remotely as well. For extra security, some features are only programmable while physically near the lock and connected via BlueTooth; this has not been an impediment as the selection of limited features is well made.

I need to stress the level of customization that is easily available in the app between the lock, the keypad, the hub… and all of the SwitchBot devices. If you can follow the menus you will find many options, most with descriptions of what the option does and how it works.

The Home Screen on the Hub 3 is customizable to display time, temp & humidity with the built in sensors or external sensors, the status of other SwitchBot devices, locks, etc. There are 4 programmable soft keys on the Hub 3, a rotary dial, and some fixed function keys for navigation. The screen can be dimmed or turned off and can be motion sensitive, if desired, to turn back on upon approach, which the operation and sensitivity of is programmable. The connection range from SwitchBot devices to the hub is impressive, as well as WiFi connectivity to the router. The hubs will control infrared devices as well, for example, giving the ability to adjust stereo volume or channels from another room, through the app, on a customizable screen. The range of the infrared emitter is excellent.

I feel a little like, “but wait, there’s more!…” because these are all truly helpful and useable features… I’m not able to touch them all in one review, nor have I discovered all the options.

Almost all of these features I describe are possible with the lock combo package as it comes from SwitchBot, and you do not need the Hub 3 to enable them… I only NEEDED the Hub 3 for the programmable buttons, app free control control of other devices through the hub, and temperature/status displays.

Battery life has so far been excellent. Charging is easy for the main unit with USB C on the removable battery. There is a backup battery that will keep the lock working with limited operation while charging the main pack, so you don’t need to have 2 battery packs. The keypad is easily removable with the included SIM card tool, or a paperclip, to replace those batteries.

If I find any issues I will report back, but at this point I am eager to purchase more of these locks.

This lock is awesome! Pleasantly surprised with how well thought out it is! We’re in an apartment so our Jimmy Proof Lock isn’t compatible with most of the electronic locks on the market, (used to have an August lock once upon a time), and we were really missing having keyless entry.

I was super excited to see this has a Jimmy lock adapter for our top lock! And it would also work on our bottom mortise lock too, but opted for the top one to start.

I’ve installed a lot of smart home devices and this could’ve been a tough one just given the variability of different locks and positions etc., and they did a really nice job designing this to be easy to install. I was surprised at how fast we actually got it installed, the directions were really clear with both a walkthrough video and visuals in the app. We followed the directions in the video with the added Jimmy lock adapter and it was super easy to get assembled too. I’ll leave a separate review for that adapter.

But yeah I think the hardest part was setting up was getting the Alexa skill up and running since we weren’t sure how to enable the voice commands, but ChatGPT gave us a quick tutorial and the we were all good.

Also the fingerprint keypad is spectacular too, makes coming home so so so much easier, it’s just a little thing but really makes life better. And I setup the automatons in the switch it app to automatically lock after shutting the door and an alarm if it is slightly ajar or doesn’t lock for some reason.

Oh and the other great thing that’s better than the August lock is that it has a rechargeable main battery that you can pop out connect to USB-C and charge it back up. I hope I can buy a second main battery because I to have a second one on hand to charge up while one is in use, but battery life was a real frustration with our old August lock where it had AA batteries.

Anyway nice job SwitchBot team, this lock gives us great peace of mind and functionality and it’s a super great price too. there are so many little features in the app that make it above and beyond it really is quite smart. Might have to upgrade the keypad to the new face recognition one though 😂😂

The SwitchBot Lock Ultra has been a fantastic addition to my smart home. What really sets it apart is the variety of unlock options. I can use my fingerprint, a passcode, an NFC card, or even unlock it remotely through the app. It’s super convenient, especially when I have guests or deliveries. I can just send a code or unlock the door from wherever I am.

Setup was quick and painless, and the lock feels really solid and secure. The fingerprint reader is fast and accurate, and the keypad lights up nicely at night. I also like that you can set up temporary codes for guests or service workers. It’s a small thing, but it makes life easier.

It integrates really well with the SwitchBot ecosystem, but you don’t need to go all-in to appreciate how good this lock is. I’ve had no connection issues or reliability problems, and the app gives you a clear log when it’s locked or unlocked.  Overall, it’s a super versatile and dependable smart lock. If you’re looking for security, flexibility, and ease of use, I’d definitely recommend it! I switched from a previous smart lock and was able to switch to the SwitchBot Lock Ultra in 10 mins.

Update 9/25/2025

My front door lock (12 feet away from hub mini) permanently looses connection with the hub every few days. I have to unpair it from the keypad and remove it from the app, then re-add it to the app and re-pair it to the keypad to get the hub to see it.

It used to be the hub just wouldn’t connect to WiFi, now it’s just loosing the lock.

I have a second lock on the entrance into the garage about 4 feet away that has never had any issues.

I can’t imagine 12 feet (line of sight) away is too far for the hub to work.

What the heck SwitchBot!

The lock works really well but constantly looses network connection. My WiFi is UniFi set to only 2.4ghz so it should work properly. The signal is strong and everything else on the WiFi works flawlessly and consistently.

Half the time the app does not work away from home.

If they could get the WiFi stable, this would be a 5 out of 5.

I like the versatile, feature-rich door lock.

It has a keypad and supports password types like a permanent password, a kind of master key, a one time key for visitors, time-based password allowing appointment-based visitors. One-time passwords and time-based passwords are very handy for AIRBnBs. Beyond keypad-based passwords, it can be remotely controlled from switchbot App. Smart home users can integrate it with Google or Alexa and support the Matter protocol.

I mostly use Fingerprint and find it very useful with kids. It's fast, low noise.

Another excellent feature is Auto Unlock based on your phone's Bluetooth. As you approach the door, the door automatically unlocks. It also supports the Auto Lock feature, which I kept it to automatically lock at 9 PM. Its magnetic door sensor ensures it auto locks only when the door is properly locked. This is really good at avoiding false lock notifications.

Installation is easy and straightforward. It doesn't take much time.

Aesthetically, the package came with a few extra wood grains to match your door. I find it useful

From maintenance standpoint, it has three layers of battery. While the primary battery is expected to support 12 months of battery life, the Secondary supports 1000 unlocks. Even after this, there is a third, small battery that supports 5 unlocks.

Overall, very feature rich and versatile door lock system. Highly recommend for renters, AIRBnBs and Hotels

We have a Mortise lock and can't change it due to building regulations. After a lot of research, watching endless "best digital lock" videos and reviews I finally went for the Switchbot. You do need to make sure your door and lock fit the specs, but I've found the support team helpful. Installation was easy, required no special tools. Setup was ok, with the lock connected to a Hub mini and the app we can easily monitor and control the lock remotely. They Keypad integrated easily as well, placed outside easily. The app has all of the functionalities you'd look for like auto-lock, auto unlock, logs, keys, temporary access... It is a little on the slow side, but I'm sure that's going to improve with time. So when I compare it to the August lock I've had up until a few motnhs ago before we moved to this apartment, I'm very happy, Before we moved to this apartment we had a deadbolt and were using an August smart lock, which we liked. The Smart Lock Ultra is just as good and at a competative price. Going back to the beginning, after a long search,the Lock Ultra's biggest plus is it's flexible compatability.

Got two of these locks and they are pretty incredible. The ability to control the locks for an app, Home Assistant, facial recognition, fingerprint, palm vein recognition, PIN code, or key gives you so many great options. Not to mention the dual battery setup that gives you piece of mind.

The installation was easy but it has only been in the doors for less than a week. No idea how long the battery will actually last but time will tell.

By far my fav renter friendly smart lock in the market!! The rechargeable battery function, keypad option, sleek and unique design are all very thoughtful and presentable. The keypad is also opened by NFC and Fingerprint on top of code makes it super easy. Tried many brands and this is my fav and most reliable by far with no internet connectivity issues.

Note that this package does not include the hub. Make sure to double-check before ordering to avoid surprises.

I upgraded from a semi-smart Weiser lock, and the SwitchBot Smart Lock Ultra is honestly in a completely different league. The improvement is like night and day. From the moment I opened the box, it felt like a well-designed, well-thought-out product.

1. Installation was incredibly easy

What impressed me right away was how simple the setup was. I didn’t need to replace my existing key, change my current deadbolt, or alter the appearance of my door from the outside. Everything fit neatly over the existing hardware, which made the whole process stress-free.

2. The keypad is flexible and convenient

I really love that the keypad is a separate accessory rather than being built into the lock itself. This gives you the freedom to mount it anywhere—on the door, on the frame, or even a bit farther away if that works better for your space. It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference in practicality.

3. Loaded with smart features

The lock includes all the bells and whistles you could ask for: smooth app control, reliable auto-locking/unlocking, integration with smart home platforms, and overall very responsive performance. Everything just works the way you expect it to.

I’m genuinely very happy with this purchase. For anyone considering an upgrade—especially if you catch it on sale—I would easily recommend this lock. It has improved the convenience and functionality of my entryway more than I expected.

The only minor downside:

The proprietary battery. I personally wish it used standard AA batteries for easier replacements. That said, the removable battery pack is USB-C rechargeable, so at least it’s easy to top up without needing to replace anything.

The SwitchBot Lock Ultra has honestly been everything I hoped it would be.

Installation was ridiculously easy. I had it mounted and working in about 10 minutes. Since it installs on the inside of your existing deadbolt, I was able to keep the same key and existing exterior hardware. I’m currently renting, so that was a huge selling point for me. No drilling into the outside of the door, no changing locks, no landlord concerns. It simply affixes to the inside and works with what you already have.

The app has also been surprisingly good. It's responsive, quick, and setup was straightforward. The included Matter Hub was a really nice bonus too. I originally looked at it just for the lock functionality, but I ended up getting more value out of the ecosystem than I expected. I connected it with Alexa, and I can now control my split AC unit through both Alexa and the app as well.

I went back and forth before buying because it doesn't support Apple HomeKey. I thought that would bother me a lot more than it actually does. In reality, I don't miss it. You can still use proximity-based unlocking if you want, but I actually prefer the fingerprint keypad. It’s fast, reliable, and I love not needing to carry one more key around.

One thing I didn't expect was how useful the voice integration would be for my family. My son has some anxiety and he'll often ask, "Daddy, did you lock the door?" Being able to simply say, "Alexa, lock the front door," and have that peace of mind is actually really cool.

I also have a few automations set up now that make the whole thing feel much smarter than just a lock. For example, when I say "Alexa, goodnight," it locks the door, turns off the lights, and gets everything ready for the night automatically. Small thing, but it genuinely makes the house feel more put together.

Overall, this ended up being one of those purchases where I kept waiting for the catch and there really wasn't one. Easy install, keeps my existing key, works well for renters, integrates nicely with Alexa, and just fits into daily life better than I expected.

Not much to complain so far, in fact I loved this SwitchBot Lock Ultra so much that I purchased a second one for another entrance.

So far everyone in the family loves the ease of use and convenience. As a tech enthusiast, I had always been a bit apprehensive about getting a smart lock, this purchase has made me a believer. I don’t think I could go back.

The Ultra Lock worked well for the first few weeks, but would then begin to repeatedly jam, and require daily recalibration.

Support has suggested updating firmware, recharging batteries, reinstalling the app/repairing, etc., but none of these resolved the issue. I was asked to abandon my original ticket and create a new one, and am now going in circles -- currently waiting for a future firmware fix that will supposedly resolve the problem. There are other reviews and posts online that seem to confirm this is not an isolated issue.

It was suggested to avoid manually turning the lock, but the issue persists even when using the app/button to lock/unlock. I am left with no choice but to operate the lock manually, as if the Ultra Lock was not even installed. The lock is too unreliable to trust, and fails at fulfilling its intended function.
