5G | World-class Network and Infrastructure

5G stand-alone is now live across Jersey, with extensive coverage delivering enhanced mobile experiences for customers across the island.

To find out more about the benefits and when the full features are available for your device, please see our device table and FAQs below.
Rollout Now Underway

5G rollout has now begun in Guernsey, bringing faster speeds, greater capacity and more reliable connectivity to the island.

Our deployment will continue in phases as we upgrade sites across Guernsey. To help you stay informed, we’ve created a rollout map showing when each location is expected to go live.

Below you will find our Bailiwick of Guernsey rollout map

Each mast location on the map includes an estimated activation month, so you can see when 5G is coming to your area.

We’ll continue to update this regularly as more sites go live — so please check back to track progress and find out when you can connect to 5G.

Does my device have access to the new 5G network?

While our 5G network is now live, access to 5G services -including features like 5G Standalone and Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) – also depends on your device.

Not all smartphones support every 5G feature from day one. Device compatibility is influenced by the manufacturer, software updates, and certification requirements specific to our network. This means some devices may gain access to new capabilities over time as updates are released.

In the table below, you can view popular devices and when they are expected to support key features on our network.

FAQs

What’s the difference between 5G stand-alone and 5G non stand-alone?
5G comes in two forms: Non‑Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA). NSA is the version most widely deployed today and builds on existing 4G infrastructure, delivering faster speeds but relying on older technology behind the scenes. In contrast, SA is a fully dedicated 5G network with its own core, unlocking the full potential of 5G, such as ultra‑low latency, greater capacity, and more reliable performance. In simple terms, NSA is a step up from 4G, while SA is “true” 5G designed to support the next generation of connected experiences. Find out more from our CTO, Alessando.

When will I have access to 5G SA?
The good news is that 5G Standalone (SA) is now live in Jersey and is currently being rolled out in Guernsey. However, access to it can depend on a few factors, including whether your handset supports 5G SA and if your device manufacturer has enabled it through software updates. You’ll also need a new SIM to activate SA - this can be arranged when you next upgrade your phone or by visiting a JT shop.

Does my current device support 5G?
To check if your current device is compatible, take a look at our handy table above. If it isn’t and you’d like to upgrade, you can spread the cost over a period of up to 36 months and browse our latest range here.

Why does my phone sometimes switch between 4G and 5G?
5G NSA still uses 4G technology, so your device will combine both networks for best performance and switch to the strongest signal.

Will 5G SA be available everywhere?
Yes, 5G Standalone (SA) will be available to JT customers across the whole of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey as the rollout completes. To access it, you’ll need a compatible device and a new SIM from us. Once you have both, you’ll be ready to enjoy the full benefits of 5G SA as coverage continues to expand.

What is Voice over Wi-Fi (or Wi-Fi Calling)?
Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) lets you make and receive calls and SMS over a Wi-Fi connection instead of relying on a mobile signal. This is especially useful in areas with weak or no indoor coverage, as it helps keep your calls clear and connected wherever you have Wi-Fi access— whether that’s at home, work, or in a cafe. Most modern smartphones support VoWi-Fi, but you may need to enable it in your device settings and ensure your handset is compatible. Find out more from our CTO, Alessando

Does VoWi-Fi (Wi-Fi Calling) and 5G SA cost extra?
No - VoWi-Fi (Wi‑Fi Calling) and 5G Standalone (SA) don’t cost any extra. They’re included in all our mobile plans at no additional charge. As long as your phone is compatible and you have a new SIM from us, you’re ready to go. For VoWi-Fi, you’ll also need a broadband connection to make calls over Wi-Fi.

Can I use VoWi-Fi (WiFi Calling) abroad?
Wi-Fi Calling (VoWi-Fi) is designed to work on Wi-Fi networks within the Channel Islands, so it won’t be available when you’re using Wi-Fi abroad.

Once activated, will calls switch between Wi-Fi and the mobile network?
Yes - your phone can seamlessly switch between VoWi-Fi and the mobile network during a call, always using the strongest available connection.

Can I call emergency services using Wi-Fi Calling?
Yes, you can still contact emergency services using Wi-Fi Calling.

Does Wi-Fi Calling use my data allowance?
No, Wi-Fi Calling uses your Wi-Fi connection, so it won’t use your mobile data allowance.

Which devices support Wi-Fi Calling?
Most modern smartphones support Wi-Fi Calling, including recent Apple iPhones and Android devices from major manufacturers. Check out our device table to see when its likely to be available for your device.

Do I need to do anything else to use Wi-Fi Calling?
It’s simple. All you need is a new SIM or eSIM and just make sure your device is compatible, Wi-Fi Calling is switched on in your settings, and you’re connected to Wi-Fi. Then you can call and text as normal.
